Bethany’s Senior Ministry recently gathered to celebrate three remarkable men whose dedication has blessed our congregation for many years: Gene Bengston, Larry Kohn, and Terry Micklevitz. Though Gene was unable to attend while recovering from an injury, his daughter, Barb Dubow, represented him with joy and gratitude.
The event drew a record 40 attendees, well above the usual 27. Tables were beautifully set with linens and centerpieces by Corrine Zoellick, and the honorees were recognized with custom plaques, greeting cards signed by all, and a special cake. Interim Pastor Paul Petersen opened the program with a lively prayer set to camp songs, followed by a moment of silence remembering Nancy Johnson, Marv Onnen, and Jack Heisler. Music continued as Dr. Aaron Knodle led a sing-along of the honorees’ favorite hymns.
Linnea Kountz announced plans for the group’s annual Christmas Concert outing to the Raue Center on December 12 to see the Elgin Symphony Orchestra, with registration and fees due by November 12. Dave Olsen invited members to consider joining the Seniors Steering Committee, which is seeking new voices, and reported that finances remain on track within budget.
The next Senior Ministry gathering will be held October 20 at 9:00 a.m. in Luther Hall, featuring coffee, donuts, and a special presentation by Aileen Zei of the Alzheimer’s Association on the detection and treatment of Alzheimer’s and dementia.
