At Bethany Lutheran Church, reflecting Christ in Message and Action means service to others. We are called and devoted to serve each other, our community, our world.
The Caring Vine is a means to reach out to members who are experiencing difficult or transitional times. This ministry includes the Prayer Shawl Ministry, blankets for new babies, as well as providing transportation or meals.
In the spiritual life of our church, this group plays its part by including in daily prayer those who have special needs. Their names are supplied weekly at the request of the pastors and members with concerns for their family, friends or themselves.
A program of our congregation that equips lay persons to provide Christian one-to one- care to those who are experiencing all kinds of life needs and circumstances. There are times when each of us needs the care of a Christian friend, a Stephen Minister. Stephen Ministry is a confidential ministry.
In conjunction with Heartland Blood Centers, this is a a semi-annual blood drive event. Time Commitment: One time Sunday morning or help plan
Christmas in July
This annual outreach project starts with putting up the Christmas tree in the gathering area, Christmas Wish Lists are shared, and the congregation is invited to participate in a “reverse offering” or purchase a gift(s) from the “Wish List” to share with selected recipients.
Project reaches out to our new college freshman with a little gift of suppport from their Bethany Lutheran Church family. A gift card to a local sub shop is always appreciated!
during Thanksgiving we collect Thankgiving dinner items or monetary donations to pack Thanksgiving dinner ingredients for needy families in the area.
Are provided for children of Turning Point and Home of the Sparrow. The congregation can donate monetarily or by bringing a specific item. Everyone can help pack baskets on the fun Sunday morning that we get all ready for delivery.
Family Christmas Project
Monetary donations assist needy families at this special time of the year. These funds are generally matched by Thrivent. The Social Action Team, together with other volunteers, shop, wrap and prepare and deliver gifts to needy families in our area.
Bethany volunteers stock and sort food and personal items at the local Food Pantry site on a monthly rotational basis with the other churches. Members also participate in various events throughout the year to collect items for the Food Pantry.
Bethany, together with other churches, provides emergency financial funding to assist people in need in our community. The program is located at our church in Room L-6. The ministry operates Mon., Wed. and Fri., from 9:00-11:00 a.m.
Habitat for Humanity
Share time from 8:00 - 4:00 p.m. on a Saturday to work on a local home under construction as part of this outreach.
Public Action to Deliver Shelter (P.A.D.S.) is a mission of our church to give shelter to the homeless of McHenry County. There are 7 sites, one for each night of the week. Bethany’s doors are open every Sunday night 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. from October 1 to April 30. Volunteers help provide onsite meals, sack lunches, laundry and a clean safe place to sleep. Multiple ways to help.
Sheltered Village is a home in Woodstock for developmentally disabled adults. Bethany reaches out monthly to bringthem cookies and treats and play games. At Christmas time we gather together for a Christmas party bring donated items from each resident's wish list all wrapped and ready to delight!
This is an annual fall walk to take a stand against hunger in our world. Participation includes walking or making a donation.
We support Lutheran World Relief Projects, Missionary Support, and World Hunger. Our direct global mission support reaches missionaries all around the world including our sister church the Kiutu parish in Tanzania, Youth in Global Missions, missionaries in Mexico, and Mission Save A Smile in Panama.
God calls us to be stewards of creation and in doing so this team provides recycling opportunities and earth-keeping education throughout the year. They host zero waste challenges and the annual Garage Sale/Eco Fair.
Our quilting group meets the 2nd & 4th Thursdays year round from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. to sew. Squares are cut from material and pieced into quilts that are given to Lutheran World Relief.
